Is DBS Right For Me?
My well known MDS has said that I’m a good candidate for DBS. I don’t have tremors but have Dyskinesia and stiffness/slowness of movement. I was diagnosed 12 years ago but have had symptoms for 20 years. I am 59 years and am looking for advice and experiences. I am a bit nervous about brain surgery but I have had eight spine surgeries and I feel that life is passing me by waiting for and a treatment. Thanks for any help
George had DBS surgery in October 2021. It didn’t work ,programming wasn’t working. . Still had tremors. 2nd DBS surgery in February 2022 tremors stopped and he could be programmed. But he felt he has brain damage which all sorts of complications. Psychotic drugs were given but caused problems. George isn’t on any prescription medication. Tylenol for pain only. Every other day is a good day. Speech and memory were damaged. He says he wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone else.
Best to all who are considering DBS.
Diane, George’s wife and caregiver.
I had DBS in April 2022. Insurance would no longer cover rytary. I'm no longer on PD meds. It has allowed me to keep working.
I'm also considering DBS. Like Pbandjr, I don't have tremors but the dyskinesia is getting worse.
I have had one side done in 2017 and it worked very well. and I am a candidate for the other side now . I go to UAB DR. Harrison Walker and Dr. Holland
I know that for people with bad tremors, DBS can be life changing. I'm not sure about dyskinesia, but I assume that if it is seriously affecting your life, then DBS will make a big difference.
