Limbs Stiffness

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I know that stiffness is involved in the moving of arms and legs
My husband just came home from the hospital last week. I don't understand something
His right leg is so stiff that he can hardly straighten it. Also, it's like his leg is so tight it wants to stay bent more than straight.
Is this common with Parkinson's that the legs will tighten up so much that a person can't straighten them?
It's almost like too that his right leg is dead weight. This concerns me very much. I am scared… read more

Checking with your dr is always advisable, but I suffer with leg stiffness and I just keep working toward increasing flexibility and range of motion. I know it's hard and frustrating but motion equals life. Keep fighting.

Sounds like dystonia. You can get Botox injections into the muscles to relax them. Ask your doc.

Hi Stlane. , I have exactly the same problem. My right leg 🦵 is s painful when I try to walk, I can’t straighten it out. I did have my right knee replaced in 2018 but it didn’t cause a problem until about a month ago. I can’t put my right heel down especially when I get up in the morning. I’m now walking with a walker. Hopefully PT will help.

Hi I'm not 100% sure, but I have had a problem with my hamstrings being incredibly tight so it's very difficult to bend at the waist with straight legs. I'd recommend a physical therapist and chiropractor!

I also have the problem in my left leg. When tremorring, the tendons seem to be drawn up so I can't straighten the leg. It becomes very painful and cannot sit down. On!y walking will ease it but as you can imagine that isn't easy, although it must look comical. I walk sort of John Wayne style just after he gets off the horse.

It is random so I can't help you with a reason, just reassure you that it is not unknown in the world of PD. Discuss it with your Neurologist or Parkinson's Nurse , they may have an answer.

Sorry I can't be more useful with information.
