Diane- It is difficult to get motivated but sometimes you have to push yourself out the door to get some exercise. Try to find a partner, it will make engaging in an activity much more enjoyable. It is not how long you exercise, it is just the fact that you get out and move. Me, I bike and walk if weather permits and go to health club on other ocassions, and I hate exercising. Prefer to get my exercise doing something I enjoy doing like golf. I am envious of you living in Colorado, beautiful place to get out and hike and enjoy your surroundings. Have a great Holiday season.

My husband and I used to be long distance backpackers, hiking or doing trail work every weekend. At this point he is doing well to walk a mile, and it takes him about 45 minutes. He gets very discouraged some days. Our previous life is gone and we haven't managed to find anything he can do that is comparable.

Thank you for sharing your loss as well as the pain and difficulty in dealing now with this loss. I found walking poles helpful in increasing my meager walking distance. Is there somewhere you can go to appreciate the beauty you used to find in hiking, and then take a shorter hike from there (i.e. - do part of the trail? Thank you for acknowledging that this is difficult. I do not feel so alone now.
