- Symptoms and Complications: OSA Show Full Answer

Yes, sleep apnea is indeed connected to Parkinson's disease. According to your knowledge base:

- Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): Parkinsonā€™s disease may affect muscle function in the airways, leading to OSA. This condition causes a person to stop and start breathing throughout the night.
- Symptoms and Complications: OSA can result in excessive daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, abrupt awakenings with gasping or choking, dry mouth, morning headaches, difficulty concentrating, mood changes, poor memory, heart disease, and stroke.
- Diagnosis and Treatment: A sleep study (polysomnogram) is often recommended to diagnose OSA. Treatment may include the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine to keep airways open during sleep.

If you have been denied by the VA, it might be helpful to discuss these findings with your healthcare provider to gather more evidence and support for your case.
