People with Parkinson's disease often experience sciatic pain, which can be severe and interfere with daily life. Here are some strategies they use to manage this pain:

- Medication: Some members take prescriptions like amantadine (Gocovri) which has been effective for them.
- Physical Therapy: Engaging in physical therapy and performing recommended stretches and exercises consistently can help manage pain.
- At-Home Therapies: Applying heat or cold packs, as suggested by physical therapists, can provide relief. For example, using ice packs at night to numb the legs and aid sleep.
- Consulting Specialists: Seeing a pain consultant can help identify the cause, such as a trapped nerve due to spine degeneration and rigidity from Parkinson's.

These methods can help alleviate the pain and improve quality of life.

Have you seen an orthopedist to find out the cause of the sciatica? If it is a damaged or compressed disc, shots or nerve blockers may help. Stretching can help, so a physical therapist is a good option as well. Sitting too much can cause or worsen sciatica, so moving more is a good first step.

Make an appointment with a well respected Orthopedic doctor...become evaluated.
Physical Therapy is usually the first approach...
Good luck.
