Will Side Effects From Medication Be Lessened If He Continues The Medication To The Full Dosage?
My wonderful husband is struggling with taking the medication prescribed, SINEMET. He is suppose to increase the dosage gradually, but doesn't seem to be able to get past day 2 due to the way it makes him feel. Extreme anxiety, diarrhea, etc. I keep telling him to try to make it through to the full dose and things may improve.
Will it get better? How do I help him during this time?
Thank you so much.
Jacqueline
My husband had the same problem at the beginning. He was prescribed 2 1/2 tabs of Sinemet three times a day. The first few weeks was a struggle but he kept working at it. Sometimes he would have to back up half a tab for a few days & then start over. We did find that when he reached 2 1/2 tabs he began having hallucinations and the Dr. had him to stay at 2 tabs 3 times a day. He has been on that dosage for 5 years now. The most important thing we learned was that timing was critical. In fact, we set the timer for (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators) and he never fails to take his meds. We keep some with us at all times along with some water. It has really made a difference in how well the medicine works.
I have to take 2 tablets of 10 /100 sinemet every 3 hours...day and night and sometimes a dissolve sinemet because i was late or missed a dose. When he surgery or goes into the hospital for anything make sure he gets his medication on time or it will make matters a whole lot worse. If i take more than 2 tablets at a time i get HORRIBLE dyskenesia...ask the neurologist If they could suggest an ally to go with the sinemet like amantadine or azilect. And it only helps with the shaking but that is a humongous help because when parkies shake we shake everywhere including our stomachs and it seems the middle of my brain. Offs are debilitating.
