Does Anyone Have A Problem With Extremely Low Blood Pressure To The Point Of Passing Out Or Lightheadedness?
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, are you the one with low blood pressure trouble? It's called neuro orthostatic hypotension. It can be caused by having PD alone, but the [[treatment:levodopa/carbidopa:55d534f51fcaa397470006dd]] can cause it or make it worse. I take a drug called midodrine, but there are several which might be prescribed. Things you can do to offset the problem is to drink more fluids, drink coffee, and add more salt to your diet if you can tolerate it. Also, if you are out walking, shopping, etc try sitting down and propping up your legs periodically. Compression hose also helps. Make sure when you stand up you do so slowly, then stand a few moments to let your body adjust to that position. You also might try sleeping with the head of your bed elevated so it doesn't hit so hard first thing when you get out of bed. And make sure your doctor knows. If he doesn't know what's causing it, or if you have an episode when you're out and about, tell whomever that you have neuro orthostatic hypotension associated with PD and your medication. I tell you this because I suffered with it for more than a decade before a doctor made the correct diagnosis. It is not well known or recognized which is why I am being trained to educate people, including medical personnel, about this often missed diagnosis.
Hugs,
Teresa
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member I will mention the medication to my dr. I have to be very careful that I don't pass out or fall. Went to ER on the 14th and he said I was dehydrated after doing tests. My heart rate was 135 pbm and felt as if it was just flopping around in my chest . It was ok after a bag of i.v. fluid .
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member I have gotten so I use a walker now almost consistently since I'm home all day alone. It helps me with my balance especially when the dizziness hits. We have also arranged furniture so that if I get hit with dizziness as I'm walking there is a place I can sit within reach. So I have this sort of path I follow wherever I go through the house.
My husband has experienced sudden blood pressure drops and blacking out...doctors at ER attribute it to dehydration. It's important that Parkinson's patients stay hydrated!!!
Drink gatorade that brings the bp up
