Can Certain Meds Make You Loose Control Of Your Bowels

My father has had parkinsons for many years now. And just recently he has been wetting himself without actually knowing. Has anyone else had these symptoms

I had a lot of trouble with both urine and bowel control last year. About 16 months ago, I had pelvic floor surgery (prolapsed bladder and uterus) and developed lots of complications afterwards, including something called SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). Now that SIBO is under better control, my bowel incontinence is gone. I was ready to repeat my 'failed' pelvic floor surgery until I discovered I had a urinary tract infection. No pain, just loss of bladder control. Treated that infection. So, in both arenas, I am much, much better. These problems were unrelated to meds, but related to the fact that PD slows involuntary muscle contractions that affect normal control of both urinary and bowel function. Try to look for secondary infections, because this slowing can cause all kinds of infection. Older folks often don't show typical signs of infection (like fever or pain) with a urinary tract or GI tract infection. Of course, if your dad has cognitive problems, that will also affect the ability to notice a need to evacuate bowel or bladder.

my husband has a problem holding his urine. He wears diapers all the time. Best brand is Tena that I have a standing order that ships every month. They are kind of expensive but hold the urine better than depends. A doctor gave him some expensive meds to try to control this but he is taking so much meds that I hated to add another one. The diapers are aggravating for me, the smell and disposing with them but you do what you have to do. He has trouble walking and I would rather do this than have him trying to get to the bathroom and fall.

My husband wears diapers. Sometime he goes to the bathroom but usually at night he goes without knowing it in his sleep. Sometimes he wakes up and uses the bedside commode. He has gotten up and in his confusion removed the diaper and wet in the floor. He goes through a lot of diapers.
