Has Anyone Expienced Muscle Spasms That Keep Them Up At Night? My Body Just Doesn't Seem To Be Able To Relax
I was diagnosed in February 2015 and I am still trying to adjust. I am getting 2 to 4 hours of sleep at night because my muscles just don't seem to be able to relax, Is this Parkinson or could it be something else?
I have found that a warm Epsom salt bath very helpful for this. This is very inexpensive and the warm water helps your muscles to relax. As you know, magnesium is the primary ingredient in Epsom salt. You might check with your MD to see if he thinks taking a magnesium tablet would be helpful as well. I do take one a day. I also have a brace that sits on the edge of the tub to help me with getting in and out of the tub.
Here I go again----sorry if I sound like a broken record. Talk with your Neurologist about problems. There are medications and other things that can be done, but unless you tell the doctor you are having problems, they don't know. You must build yourself a TEAM for your care and make sure YOU are on the team!
That's about what my husband gets--we are both sleep deprived. Listening to all the different remedies gives you options to try though and it helps knowing you are not alone in your struggles.
I soak wash cloths in Epsom Salt then lay them on my legs (putting layered dry towels under my legs to keep the bed dry) about 30-45 minutes before I go to bed. I keep the bucket of Epsom Salt by the bed in case I need to re-soak/reapply the wash clothes. Sometimes I fall asleep with them on. It has helped me a great deal with muscle spasms as well as muscle contractions in my legs at night.
Yes, it is PD--drink tonic water and take magnesium for cramps. I often massage my husbands legs at night as well.
