Does Anyone Have "off" Periods Where You Literally Can't Move? What Do You Do?

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question đź’
Henderson, TX

My "off " periods require i lay down. My right foot turns inward, my arch turns into a rock, my breathing is extremely shallow, my toes stack on top of each other. I have to lay down. My muscles become weak, I can't move or do anything. Sometimes i fall asleep. I know I don't make any sense, lack of oxygen does that.i know the "off" periods get longer, but i don't like not being able to move.
I'm apologize for venting.
I haven't seen my counselor this week.

It sounds like you're experiencing very challenging "off" periods, and it's completely okay to vent—you're not alone in this. Many people with Parkinson's report similar experiences during "off" times, such as muscle stiffness, weakness, and difficulty moving. To manage these periods, consider:

1. Exercise: Gentle activities like stretching or using a stationary bike may help ease symptoms as "off" time nears.
2. Medication Timing: Work with your doctor to adjust medication schedules for better symptom control.
3. Stress Management: Stress can worsen symptoms, so practices like mindfulness or deep breathing may help.
4. Physical Therapy: A physical therapist can provide exercises to improve mobility and reduce discomfort.
