DBS reduced my tremor but left me with a slight cognitive problem, profound dyskinesia and walking problem after the first and significant walking and speech problems after the second.. Only the cognitive problem has resolved.

I am not satisfied with the answer because it does not address the potential problems such as speech problems or walking difficulty and the months of therapy needed to solve these. It paints a rosy picture of what will occur while ignoring the negative.

👋 Drpaulod, My 1st cousin got PD to from the military. He had the DBS done and was able to walk again, didn’t do exercises, before the surgery , he had to use a wheelchair. After the second part of the surgery, He didn’t have problems anymore with talking, swallowing, breathing and with physical therapy able to walk without walker. His body doesn’t jerk or have tremors anymore . Couldn’t tell, that he had ever had PD with DBS done! Yippee 🙌, isn’t that great! (It’s always a risk having the DBS or any kind of surgery.). I’m sorry, to hear you’re having so many issues with having the DBS. I will pray that the Lord resolves everything with blessings of healing for you. In Jesus Name.Amen!🙏🙏🙏

Outcomes of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease can vary. Here are some key points based on my knowledge base:

- Expected Outcomes:
- More than 70% of people with Parkinson’s who receive DBS experience significant improvements in their motor symptoms.
- DBS may reduce motor symptoms and allow for a reduction or elimination of some medications.

- Surprises and Variability:
- It may take up to six months of adjusting DBS settings before experiencing benefits.
- Some may experience side effects such as numbness, tingling, balance and speech problems, muscle tightness, or mood changes.
- There can be complications from the surgery itself, such as infection, headache, or temporary confusion.

Always consult with your neurologist to understand the potential outcomes and risks specific to your condition.
