Has Anyone Else Been Diagnosed With Parkinson’s Disease Only To Find Out 8 Months Later That They Don’t Have Parkinson’s But Something Else
I have symptoms that point to Parkinson’s but isn’t. Now the doctor thinks I fall in the Parkinsonism umbrella and is really something else. Hard to wrap my head around this.
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member - if you have symptoms that seem to be Parkinson's (i.e .tremor, difficulty walking, balance issues) but carbidopa doesn't help, it may that you have one of the diseases that is not caused by lack of dopamine in the brain. Treatment would therefore need to be different than for someone with PD. In some cases, Parkinsonism can shorten a person's life. For some with Parkinsonism, the disease doesn't progress. For others it progresses much faster. That's why it is important to know if you have Parkinson's or another Parkinsonism.
Spelled that word wrong - neurologist
There are several disorders under that umbrella, and some that aren’t under that umbrella that can be diagnosed as PD.
Getting the proper diagnosis for a neurological disorder is a process.
Nancy I am still trying to understand the difference.
