It can be very frustrating to hear that nothing can be done about chronic falls due to Parkinson's disease. However, there are several strategies and interventions that can help manage and reduce the risk of falls:

1. Talk to Your Doctor:
- Discuss your experiences with falls openly with your healthcare provider. They can assess your medications and refer you to specialists like physical therapists.

2. Review Your Medications:
- Some Parkinson's medications can affect balance. Your doctor can adjust dosages or switch medications to help reduce falls.

3. Exercise and Physical Therapy:
- Engaging in targeted exercises and working with a physical therapist can improve balance and gait. Exercises like the box step can help overcome movement difficulties.

4. Home Adaptations:
- Make changes to your home to reduce fall risks, such as removing tripping hazards, adding grab bars, ensuring bright lighting, and clearing clutter.

5. Use Walking Aids:
- Consider using a cane or walker to help maintain balance. Many people find that these aids significantly reduce their falls and allow them to walk longer distances.

6. Movement Techniques:
- Use techniques like walking to a regular beat, consciously lifting your feet, and using a "U" shape when turning to prevent freezing and improve stability.

By implementing these strategies, you can take proactive steps to manage and reduce the risk of falls. Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new regimen.

I am so sorry you’re dealing with that. It can be part of PD, but definitely talk to your doctor. My HWP a has suffered numerous falls and broken what seems like every bone in his body for the last several years. Some of it can depend on what is specifically causing the fall—for example, my HWP falls a lot because he has horrific orthostatic hypotension with his PD that causes his BP to plummet when he stands. He also has had falls when his feet shuffle, so for that, I got him grippy socks (we have hard floors, no carpet). He has also gotten a lot of help with falls by working with his physical therapists who work on the shuffling and balance issues. Plus they work with him on fall prevention by having him use a walker that he can use to sit on if he feels faint (it’s a special kind of walker his doctor recommended). Hang in there my friend!
