Driving After Having Seizures
My husband’s PD began with a series of seizures, falls, and back surgeries. His Dr said that in SC he could not drive for at least 6 months after having a seizure. My husband wants to drive but doesn’t remember Dr said 6 months. I told him he could never drive again due to seizures and PD. He is angry and asks often for his car keys. I won’t give them to him. Isn’t that the truth. I thought we had just enough for us to live out our “golden years” in comfort and safety. That’s all I need. Don’t want a million dollar house or fancy car. Just security. And now that is in jeopardy. My husband feels so helpless and defeated.
Yesterday we had to sell his favorite “toy.” His 2007 Shelby Mustang. Only 13,000 miles on it. Gorgeous paint, lots of upgrades and add ons. He loved working on it. Such sadness on his face as it was sold. His collections of things he wanted to play with after retiring are slowly disappearing. But he understands he won’t be able to enjoy them as he planned. He just realized that he won’t drive again. He keeps asking for his car keys but I won’t give them to him. I can’t trust that he won’t try to drive our only car and wreck it. The risk of him getting hurt or hurting someone else is too high. This disease is full of sadness and loss.
Sorry to hear your struggles, Ragena. Will put you in my prayers.
Sending hugs. We would be in the same boat: too much income for Medicaid, not enough savings to pay for a nursing home for very long.
My prayers for your husband and yourself
