Severe constipation can be a common issue for people with Parkinson's disease. Many Parkinson’s medications can cause constipation. To help manage this, ensure you are eating plenty of dietary fiber and drinking six to eight eight-ounce glasses of water daily. High-fiber foods include:

- Vegetables
- Dried or fresh fruits with the peels
- Legumes such as peas or beans
- Some nuts including almonds and pistachios
- Whole-grain products

Switching from white bread to whole-grain, from white rice to brown rice, or from regular pasta to whole-grain pasta can also help. Drinking warm beverages in the morning may stimulate the bowels. If constipation persists, consult your doctor for further advice.
