Balance Issues And Low Blood Pressure
Anyone have both issues? How do you cope? I cannot always sit at home.
I have been on high blood pressure meds for many years. I try to limit salty food. So far, so good.
Balance has been an issue since the beginning but due to a previous stroke I learned the importance of a cane. I treat it as my third leg and go no where without it. No longer do I walk as a drunken sailor and only have fallen twice when I forgot it.
Since the stroke my blood pressure is always on the high side.
My house and my yard have become my world
I have to take Midodrine HCL 5 mg to raise my BP to an acceptable level. I've had low BP my whole life, as does my older brother. My balance was lousy before the 'script and has continued to worsen as I am now in Stage Three, but I moved to an adult community with grabrails, plenty of doorframes to hang onto, and I now use a shower chair on the advice of my PT person. My prescribed Zanaflex (a potent muscle relaxer for the terrible cramps and stiffness in my muscles) makes me unsteady if I don't recline soon after I take it three times a day.
I advise checking out Midodrine for low BP, and using a cane even if it is an annoyance to you. It's far better than falling.
My balance is usually horrible. But luckily no falls yet. My blood pressure is normal.
