Does he bend over when he walks, then start going faster and faster until he can't stop except by either falling or grabbing hold of something? That's called festinating. My husband does that sometimes. He's had a few bad falls as a result. We can stop it by having him stop before the festinating gets out of control. When I see him hunched forward, we stop and wait until he can straighten up, more or less. (He has a bad back and says it hurts to walk straight.) Then we start moving again, slowly. Some days we stop every 10 yards or so, but it's better than having him lose control and fall.

I usually go in long steps of five before i stutter step. I USUALLY CATCH UP(or straighten up) BY SETTING MY BREAK and then releasing it and moving on.
