I Have Parkinson’s Plus. I Have Frequent Voice Loss. People Near Me Don’t Hear. Need A Portable PA To Talk To My Wife. What’s Happening?

Sometimes I go to speak and no sound comes out. Often voice is horse. No pain. Just started using in ear hearing aids. Incredibly annoying. Separates me from people around. What is this? what can I do? I never get a warning. No other related symptoms.

I am sorry to hear that this is happening to you. It must be so frustrating. Have you seen a speech pathologist or therapist? It may be the effect of PD, but you want to rule out any other causes as well.

There are many exercises to help regain / prevent more loss of your voice. A speech therapist can work with you to find the right exercises for you.

I hope you find the help to keep you speaking loud and strong!

Voice problems are common among people living with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and can make communication difficult. You might have a soft, breathy, and strained voice that gets thinner as the day goes on, or even as you speak. This can make it hard for people to understand you, which can be frustrating.

Here are some tips to manage communication issues:
- Schedule vocal rests before speaking with someone.
- Meet in quiet spaces to have conversations.
- Ensure the listener can see your face to help them match visual cues with your voice.
- Speak in short phrases to avoid straining your voice.
- Practice vocal exercises or consider music therapy to keep your vocal muscles active.

If these strategies are not enough, using a portable PA system can indeed help amplify your voice so that your wife can hear you better.

Pray and ask God for deliverance from this problem. Today I could not peel an orange. Frustrating.
