PD & Driving
My spouse has PD (since 2015, but think it started before that). His father, paternal uncle and maternal grandmother all had PD.
He is a strong, stubborn, independent man. And my son (who is a PA) & I think his driving skills have deteriorated. He is adamant that his driving is fine. Has anyone here had to give up driving? Has anyone had to force their PD partner to give up driving?
Thank you, his license was canceled, but he still feels he is ok to drive, will not give his keys up, so I have to watch and make sure he does not drive off.
I’m so sorry Rosemary. We feel responsible for their actions.
Is he still licensed to drive or did the state cancel his license?
Hello, I am having the same issues with my husband, diagnosed with CBD. He still feels he can drive even with taking 2 OT failed driving test. He feels it is my fault that he is not driving and will not give up his keys. I have to constantly watch him to make sure he does not drive off. Needless to say, there is always an argument about him not driving, also taking it one day at a time.
For me, I struggled with losing my independence and taking another shot from PD but after an undeniable experience in which no one was hurt, I had to put my pride aside and do what is best. I do not want to hurt anyone else so I did what was necessary. I had to take my Dad's license away due to his age, 92 yrs young, and it was awful for both of us. I stopped myself from driving because I didn't want to repeat that experience with my daughter.
I believe you are doing what is best. I pray you can remember that when your hubby asks that tough and emotional question.

I’m so sorry. It’s so difficult to understand why they don’t see the risk to other people—even the family as a passenger in their vehicle.
