My husband will sometimes fall asleep while watching TV or when we are with a group and someone is talking. It is much more subtle than what you are describing; he just shuts his eyes for a few minutes, then wakes up as if nothing happened. I will wake him up if we are with others, but not if we are alone. He rarely takes a real nap, he just snatches a minute or two here and there.

Here's a picture of the problem. Looks funny, but it's not.

Hi Trena,
Actually "Sleep attack" is kind of a misleading name. I didn't mean he attacks me. It means that a sudden bout of sleepiness attacks him. He falls asleep right in the middle of things, in particular, at the dining table while he's eating. I have to keep waking him up and help him eat or drink. I'm in constant fear that if I look away, he'll pull a hot cup of coffee right onto his lap because he falls asleep while he's drinking it and will not let go of the handle even when he puts it down. When we watch TV, I have to constantly turn to look at him and say "Wake UP!", "Open your eyes!" It's driving me crazy and I feel like we can't plan anything anymore because I never know when this is going to happen. I think he sleeps probably 80% of his "waking hours". It gets very lonely around here. I have many photos of him with his head on the dining room table, just dead asleep. It's unbelievable. I just copied this from Medical News Today online: "Sleep disorders: People with PD may experience unintended sleep episodes, or sleep attacks. This is a sleep disorder where a person falls asleep suddenly without warning."

My husband occasionally yells out but mostly he talks or sometimes he laughs or cries. I usually just reach over and stroke his hand and tell him it’s okay. Usually that calms him down and he goes back to sleep. I don’t usually fall back asleep but… on a couple of occasions he has fought a monster and hit me. Nothing that really hurt me but it is quite a shock to be awakened like that!
I don’t know if that is helpful but I understand.
Hope you both have a a restful night. You can mention it to the Dr and see if he/she has any suggestions. David takes melatonin when he goes to bed I’m already on a sleep meds but usually just get 4-5 hours sleep.
Blessings,
Trena
