Have You Found That Some Of The Non-medication Interventions Stop Working?
I have and that is what brought me to begin a journal. In my mind, I was sure I had not changed anything but when I started documenting details about my day, I realized there were small but potentially impactful changes creeping in with my noticing it-
I may have trouble sleeping recently
I may have changed a medication dose or time
I may have exercised less- all for good reasons
I may be drinking less because I'm just tired of going to the bathroom
You get my point- we are so good at slipping… read more
Thanks Dale. You are right on. I didn't learn about the carbodopa and protein interaction until 3 yrs into treatment. By then, my doc had me taking 9 tablets of carbodopa a day and my life was complicated by the over-medication. With attention to details and close monitoring, I have a balance of meds and diet and am benefiting from 4,5 carbodopa tablets per day taken in the correct timeframes of my meals. It was a rough patch but I learned a lot and came out of this more informed and feeling so much better.

@ @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member your issue is probably a drug interaction that you were never told about. A common Parkinson’s medication uses protein we eat to make an important protein chain. If you eat protein less than a half hour before or less than a than an hour after you eat protein your Carbidopa competes for the Carbidoda you need to process your Carbidopa/Levidopa (Sinimet). This is very important information that should be provided to Parkinson’s patients taking this medication, but doesn’t seem to be.
There are lots of things we find out the hard way. Your documentation led you to discovering it coincided with an off time, but you were going to discuss your pills being less effective and that could have led to an unnecessary increase in medication. A very bad thing. Documentation is excellent, however, you need to have the picture.
Attitude and happy thoughts seem to be my best defense.
Susie, thanks for sharing. I hope you find the benefits of journaling worth the effort to develop the habit. I found I get the best bag for my buck if I make journaling, even just 5-10 min per day into a habit. It amazes how just this one tool can provide so much useful info. What I haven't found is an easy way to develop the habit except pure determination and old fashioned self-guilt (lol).
Please keep us posted on your journey.

Thank you for your post. I believe that I am falling into making small changes and not realizing it. Your post is right on point! I need to start journaling too.
