I am waiting for my next appointment to my neurologist October 24th and I will let him know I want a movement disorder specialist including him. I have learned from many brothers and sisters what is going on in their lives, and several times it's where I am now
Then I hear about the next step. Hugs 🤗🫂 to all my brothers and sisters to show I love all of them in my new world now. Have a blessed weekend and let God give you strength to see you through situations it does help
It does help and I thank you for your help.
We found this assistance with a Movement Disorder Specialist at the Cleveland Clinic. My husband with PD was seeing our family neurologist for the first two years of his diagnosis--she's actually the one who diagnosed his PD. She is a great neurologist but her specialty is not PD, so her information on PD was quite limited. Then we got very lucky and a spot with an MDS at the Cleveland Clinic opened. She has been great. She knows so much about the disease, and on the few occasions where a question has come up that she's not sure of, she reaches out to someone else in her group for us. She got us in with an amazing sleep specialist as one of my husband's big PD issues is REM sleep disorder. She was also able to recommend him to a great physical therapist to work on balance and fall prevention. I hope this helps!
Your Neurologist should be able to give you insight on your specific Parkinson’s disease progression, stages, what to expect, etc..
If your seeking someone to consult with about helping you cope with the mental health aspect. Tell your Neurologist about your concerns. He may be able to treat you, or refer you to someone in the mental health field.
It really depends on your needs
but he could suggest adding a psychiatrist, psychologists, social worker, etc.. to your care team.
If your seeing a general Neurologist, I would suggest searching for and transferring to a Neurologist who specializes in movement disorders.
All Neurologist are created equal when they train in the field of general Neurology, but one who specializes in movement disorders has had additional training and experience dealing with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s, MSA, PSP, MS and a long list of other movement disorders.
Most of us have been there done that, so believe us ( the Parkinson’s community) when we say get a Neurologist who specializes movement disorders as soon as possible.
