I have read that if you step backward or sideways, it can help break the freeze. But as Monique said, it is good to have a physical therapist work with you to help with things like going through doorways or transitioning from one surface to another.

Freezing gait can be a challenging symptom of Parkinson's disease. Here are some suggestions to help manage it:

- Practice Swinging Arms: Swing both arms while walking to maintain balance.
- Use Rhythmic Cues: Walk to a regular beat, like music or a metronome, to prevent freezing.
- Consciously Lift Feet: Imagine stepping over a laser while walking.
- Use the “U” Technique: When making turns, imagine walking in a U shape instead of pivoting sharply.
- Focus on One Task: Concentrate on one task at a time to avoid distractions.
- Move Slowly: Take your time when standing up, sitting down, or changing positions. Count to 15 seconds between each movement.

These techniques can help improve your mobility and reduce the occurrence of freezing. Always consult with your doctor or physical therapist before trying new strategies.
