Bathing And Grooming
is there a better time of the day that showering and grooming is best for a Parkinson patient ?
The best time is when you feel capable of showering. As much as a bath/tub soak is nice it is much harder to get in and out of and you must have someone that can be on hand to assist you. I only use a walk in shower and I have a plastic stool to sit on as required. Also a hand held flexible shower head is a necessity to have. A shower over a bath tub for PDr's is very dangerous and it is an accident just waiting to happen by slipping or tripping.
For the shower you can also get had holds which are quite useful when you are a bit unsteady.
For me I usually shower just before going to bed as it helps loosen me up and it helps me in getting off to sleep. If I am very achy and stiff in the morning I will have a morning shower as well. I will do some stretching exercises then too while under the hot water.
If you live on your own it is a good idea to have your cell phone close to or on the shower floor inside a water proof container (do not put in the shower soap holder high up the wall) just in case you do have a fall so that you can call for help if necessary.

I agree with rent in a way. Flexible shower heads and hoses is are good. Several other suggestions to consider. You can get shower bars that you can attached to a tub wall that you hold on especially when entering or exiting. If you can't have someone to be present with you, you might call someone and ask them to call for help if you don't call them back within a certain period of time. Another thing I do is wash my hair in the kitchen sink, That means less time in the shower and one less soap in the shower. Just several things to consider.
I suppose it depends on how much participation you are looking for. I was a Corpsman in the Navy in my younger years where I've given complete bed baths. There are now lift systems where you can hoist a person from bed to a shower chair and back to bed depending of $ available and so forth. Then there are the human resources one can always take into account. As the saying goes around here : Where there's a will: there's a way.
@TeresaAnnBaker, You have such a gift for starting out being so helpful and kind regarding a serious problem or situation and ending by making is smile! God bless you Teresa! 🙏♥️🙏♥️
Not for me. If i am the least bit unsteady I wait. I don't shower near the time my meds are wearing off. I ALWAYS wait. I would rather go out without showering once in a great while than rush through a shower if i am late for an appointment. I have fallen several times and banged myself up quite a bit. The shower or tub is a very frightening place to fall. I use a shower chair also. Please exercise caution when bathing.
