Anyone Like To Decsribe Their Experience With Deep Brain Stimulation?
I had DBS in November 2020. It was wonderful initially. I felt all the tremors disappear while I was still on the table and this continued on recovery from the anaesthetic. However a fewvdaysclater the tremors came back in my leg. I was switched on 3 weeks . The tremors in my arm are controlled when switched on but not so in my leg.. the surgeon has reprogrammed the device 3 times now and although at the end each process it has seemed OK by the time I get home the tremors are back. Apparently there are 400 programmes tomt
My surgery took Place in Helsinki, Finland on the 31st of November 2018 and I live in Lappeenranta 250 km of Helsinki. and I think that traveling to Helsinki and back is quite strenious one particularly I must be without medication whole night from 2100 pm. up to 0900 am. One visit with drugs taken. You have probably more experience with the patient controller (mine is iPod by
Abbot). I understand that the doctor should do the tweaking of controller and it should be done so accurately that all symptoms should be controlled with 1
setup if possible.. I understand that it is a difficult task. I have 2 programs in
my conrtroller.
Program 1: directional Program intensity left 0,50 intensity right 1,50
Program 2: Program 130 intensity left 1,30 intensity right 1,80. The doctor has set up security limits for my tweakings.. I don't know much about these mA:s. and etc. I think that my tweakings do not mean much..
It sounds like a medication adjustment is needed or a programming session to change the frequency. Too bad you have to wait until January. I just had mine installed in Sept. and am having trouble with programming. I have had mine adjusted 3 times and have not had any improvements. I too am wondering if it is the charger or the device. Good luck. Can you get your appointment changed to a sooner date?
Where did you have the surgery done?
Hi ! I had DBS installed 31.10.2018. At first there was this "honeymoon" with operation and brains. for few weeks. I have had the programming adjusted abt.
abt. 10 times after operation, and every time after adjusting i've Felt better with
pd-symptoms,almost totally without wearing off symptoms. But after coming home by car (250 km) i start to feel same old symptoms (legs heavy, vision goes
worse, stingling feeling in legs and hands,a bit of vertigo and sore muscles and
tremblimg of hands and inside tremble. I have Abbott patient controller for
tweaking by myself with limitation. I have asked the doctor to check the controller, but he says there is no problems. I have had now nausea every Morning., but I have next appointment not earlier than 14.01.2020.
Have you get any answer from your doctor?
I had DBS 2 months ago after 2 yrs of research. I decided on the Boston Scientific. The surgery was done awake and wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I originally wanted it done asleep. Right now I am working on getting the programming adjusted. They say it could take 6-12 mo. My symptoms were tremor, dyskinesia, and leg cramps (dystonia). I've had PD for 10 yrs. I will answer any questions you have.
