Has any taken a Datscan to verify parkinsons? My husband's neurologist is requesting one.

Yes. I was as easy as an MRI. I radioactive dye is inserted in a vein. Then you just lay on a comfy table til the test is over. I'm thinking it took 30-60 min. I had it done in 2016. The 2 little pieces of brain that look like commas were the diagnostic clue. Both of my commas were missing the tails. After the neurologist got the report, he said I definitely had PD. Since then, I've had 7 more 2nd opinions. Some say I have Parkinsonism, some say I definitely do have PD, others say I definitely don't have PD. Four of the docs were movement disorder specialists. One told me there is definitely something wrong, but he doesn't know what it is. There is no 100% test for PD. I'm glad I had the Dat scan and actually got to see the anatomy of what's wrong. The cost - about $5,000.00 was covered in full by medicare and my secondary insurance.

Yes. I also had one to verify diagnosis. My insurance did pay, but it was private insurance through my employer at the time it was done. Call your insurance agent to make sure it's covered.

My husband had a DaTscan and his movement Dr. showed us how it determined that he did, in fact, have PD.

I had it done as I had symptoms which were not all normal ones for PD. The scan did confirm it was PD and I started medication 2 days later. My insurance covered it but check to make sure it’s covered as it is expensive.
