My husband of 50 years and I have dealt with much the same thing. Over the last 16 months it has been more often. We were not sleeping hardly at all..3 months ago he was diagnosed with PD. Out of desperation and a very good friend who is a doctor we tried NAD infusions. It is very new to us but we are finding it very helpful..Not sure how long it will help but we will take all the help we can get.. He also has REM sleep disorder..You may want to research NAD infusion.

I first experienced a bad sleep event where I was hitting my wife while asleep 9 years ago. Before that had events like you describe for probably 10+ years. I was formally diagnosed with RBD 5 years ago and started treatment with some improvements. I’m 46, happily married for 26 years and have found myself in a situation of not sleeping in same room with wife for a safety and averaging 3-4 hours of broken sleep per night. Symptoms range from yelling, flailing in bed, hitting self or wife, and the worst was fall from bed that resulted in spine and nose surgery.

The treatment is limited. The primary treatment options are Melatonin and/or Klonopin. I had no benefit from Melatonin. I take Klonopin at night which does help but not resolve. I am fortunate to go to a Neurologist at Emory who specializes in sleep disorders among movement disorder patients. I see her again in February and don’t know what other options she will suggest.

The things I suggest to make a bad situation better are: 1. Open communication with your mate. 2. Tell your doctor about your symptoms. 3. Research and practice good sleep hygiene. 4. If you act out dreams take measures to protect self and mate. Move side tables, wrap in blanket, etc. 5. Research REM Behavior Disorder which has very close correlation with PD.

Of my PD related symptoms this is by far my worst. I wish you the best and hope this answer helps.

I always talked a little but it increased coincident with the first appearance of tremors, as did the flailing and leg jerks. My neurologist put me on Rasagiline and symptoms subsided.

My mom does this. Her neurologist prescribed 0.25 mg klonazepam and this helps.
