I never hear about the respiratory issues caused by PD.Recently,I've been having difficulty.I feel a stiffness a tightness in my throat.I cough severely.I think it's related to my YOPD.

I have difficulty breathing at times due to the muscle tightness in chest and back. I have a lot more Sinus problems since diagnosed with PD.

Hi guys. I'm hearing both of you to talk about really two different things yet could be related. But if you talk about coughing and it's not feeling in your chest before you start coughing. I'm thinking that it probably does have something to do with PD. Why do we cough? It could have something to do with swallowing, too much salivation, or the gag reflex and more. The person that needed to come off the same way that you describe it and it could be allergies for them. It could be allergies for you. Or it could be associated with PD and I am certain that PD aggravates and perhaps extends it for a longer period of time with PD.

Manon...you were concerned about the respiratory part of it. Of course it does clear the throat and the breathing passages to make it easier to breathe. So coughing does have a connection to the respiratory system. I'm of the opinion that you cough when something in your throat or your reflexes in your throat are not going well. Therefore I think it's probably more PD related than anything at this point.

Chuck, how long have you had PD? And I'm sure you've heard of YOPD. Manon is a YOPDer and so is Michael J Fox in that Parkinson's was discovered when they were in their 30s. And that's not the age typical for getting Parkinson Disease. God bless both of you. Sterling

I have COPD but it wasn't caused by my PD. As a child I lived in my grandparents' house and they heated with coal.I lived there for 8 years. A few years ago I went to having oxygen all the time. On Dec.13,2015,I was rebaptized and after that,God removed my need for oxygen. I still have COPD but it is from my broncititis and asthum.

Coughing, chock on water, short of breath, slur speech is quite regular in my daily routine, especially when meds is wearing off and I have to be paying extra attention to all those activities involve swallowing or mouth movement. Not sure if yours is the same but just my case.

I have COPD and it has nothing to do with my PD. When I was kid my grandparents burned coal to heat thier house. It caused me to have breathing problems. I was down to oxygen. On Dec,13,2015 I was rebaptisted . I have been sprinked in the church I went to when my son was a child.Thank God I know longer require oxygen. I still have COPD. It flares up seasonally with allergies.
