@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member The Michael J. Fox Foundation has loads of info on PD. Michaeljfox.org has a blog re genetic screening that you might find interesting. What I have understood from webinars is that PD is not hereditary. There are certain biomarkers and environmental factors required.

Parkinson's disease is hereditary but I would not waste time worrying about it. Instead enjoy your life as it goes now. Worry never accomplishes anything except stress and bad feelings!

I am 55 and have PD since 2005. Nobody, on both sides of my families has or has had PD. My theory is that it can seem to be hereditary because it's in the family, but I believe that it's because you are all exposed to the same environment. Look at some stats on the prevalence of PD. The poorest countries have less cases of PD than industrialized countries like ours. For example, Canada has 125 of every 100, 000 Canadians who has PD while Ethiopia is 7/100, 000. Albania has the highest prevalence at 800/ 100, 000. And, it doesn't matter whether it's hereditary or not, you still have to accept it when you have it, no matter what.

I understand your concerns but put your fears to rest. I too have the diagnosis of bi-polar and PD. I am NOT being " punished". I have wacko brain chemistry. Neither disorder is a spiritual issue. They aren't because of something that I did or didn't do. They are part of what is called the human condition. How I cope with them CAN become a spiritual issue. Attitudes thoughts and behaviors can be spiritual choices made about physical conditions. Resentment bitterness hostility and self pity for me are spiritual choices that I must make. Personally I have chosen to say " here God you can have this ugly glob of diseases and give me the grace to cope". God will whisper His comfort to you. #1....it's not your fault you're not alone.
