I have a NordicTrack. It has worked well for a long time. Get one with arms you can grab if necessary. There is a clip attached to the magnet that turns on the machine. If you have it clipped to your shirt, then if you lose your balance, it will pull the magnet and turn off the machine. It's a nice safety feature (though I occasionally turn off the machine by swinging my arm and pulling at the line.) They advertise having a lot of pre-set programs, but I've found that I only use a few of the 40 available. Fortunately, I can change speed and incline with the push of a button, so don't use the programs most of the time. You can also subscribe to ifit, which gives you a lot more programs, but I prefer not to pay extra to use the machine if I don't have to.
