I'm Am Wondering To All The People That Has Parkinson's Before You Where Diagnosed When Did You Realise Something Wasn't Right
Or was there any signs well before diagnosis
My husband had a lot of signs years before his diagnosis, but we just assumed they were age related. He had balance issues and energy issues. He didn't want to hike as often or as far and several trips were shortened because he felt 'off'. Crossing streams became problematic. He had a slight tremor but it was barely noticeable. He had pain, but he has several bad discs in his back and knee problems from the backpacking. When my father was diagnosed with PD, I looked up the symptoms, so when Jim started hunching forward and walking more slowly, I paid attention. This was a few years after the other symptoms started. Then I asked his GP. At that time, the doctor wasn't convinced. A year later, he was. Jim didn't believe it. Then he started festinating and falling. He agreed to see a neurologist after the second fall. Jim has always spoken softly and had tiny writing, so although those are PD symptoms, I'm not sure they're related to his disease.
Many people with Parkinson's disease notice early signs and symptoms before receiving a diagnosis. Here are some common early indicators:
- Loss of Smell (Hyposmia): This can occur up to a decade before other symptoms develop
- Tremor: Although not everyone with Parkinson's experiences tremor, about 70% do at some point.
