Great question. I try to keep in mind that DBS can help but often pats need to have pretty severe symptoms before they are eligible, this procedure is not a cure and may need to be repeated and it is not without risk.
I am more interested in the developing use of focused ultrasound for treatment of PD symptoms but have the luxury of not being eligible or in need of these advanced techniques yet.

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) has been successful for many people with Parkinson's Disease. Here are some key points based on my knowledge base:

- Success Rate: More than 70% of people with Parkinson’s Disease who receive DBS experience significant improvements in their motor symptoms.
- Symptoms Improved: DBS may reduce motor symptoms such as slowness, rigidity, poor balance, and dystonia (involuntary movement).
- Daily Functioning: Improved motor symptoms can lead to better overall mobility, comfort, daily functioning, and emotional well-being.
- Medication: DBS may allow you to reduce or eliminate some of your medications, though you should never stop taking medication suddenly without consulting your neurologist.

If you are considering DBS, it is important to discuss with your neurologist to determine if it is the right option for you.

I am in the middle of DBS, had the brain surgery, scheduled for device surgery in 2 weeks. I talked to my neurosurgeon about focused ultrasound and he said it's best for essential tremor.

Good to know. Thanks for sharing this info, Frik. 660 Minutes did a pretty extensive story on a researcher in West Virginia who has reported great success with the ultrasound procedure.
