What Can You Do To Stop The Pain Of Dystonia I Have It In My Legs

This question tube at my heart strings. I was diagnosed in 2000, so as you can tell, I have dystonia in my legs, feet, back and neck! When all of the dystonia is active, it's really bad! Depending upon the stage you are going through, I have found that a combination of calcium citrate and magnesium citrate taken every night before works well. Also, make sure you are eating plenty of potassium. Helps with the cramping, too!
I am also taking gabapentin for the restless leg syndrome. My neurologist has given me a couple of different medications, but those ended up on my allergy list!
Have you had deep brain stimulation surgery? Prepare yourself for a couple of rough surgeries! My surgeon provided leg massages!
That's about all that I can remember! You have my best wishes!

Blessings to you,
Pam Kearns

I have very recently started taking 0.25mg Clonazepam at midnight. It seems to be helping with three things; rigidity (dystonia), sleep and anxiety.

Personally I think it's helping most with the rigidity and the other two are knock on effects. I have less dystonia, so I find it easier to fall asleep and I'm not awoken as much. As I'm getting more sleep, my mood is better, so I'm less anxious.

The only nuisance part is our NHS are very reluctant to prescribe controlled drugs. I've been asking to try this for nearly a year. The recommended dose is 0.5mg, but they've put me on 0.25mg. Which is fine...except the smallest pill they make is 0.5mg...so this idiotic practice has me and my shakey uncontrollable hands faffing about trying to (ping) break the (hold still you little b******d) fiddly little (spatang!) pills into (whoops!there goes another one) two halves.

Bob has been getting botox shots in his calves and feet now every 3 months for 9 months and it has made a world of difference. He also drinks a tonic water if they start.
