Dealing With Anger Outbursts and Parkinson’s Read Article...

He’s not angry at you. Unfortunately you are the target. Not that that makes you feel any better. I have PD and I get mad when someone usually my wife, correctly points out what I can’t and/or should not do. Like cleaning the gutters or reroofing the shed. I am pissed at the disease but I can’t yell at Parkinson’s so who catches hell? One of my daughters pointed out that me being mean to mom was unacceptable and that it’s not her fault that I have Parkinson’s and NO I cannot get on a ladder because if I fall 1) I could be dead or 2) I could get hurt worse and whose going to get stuck caring for me and pays the price for my foolish pride. THAT made me mad but at myself and Parkinson’s. Both strong women to tell me the truth and call me on my shit. I meditate to keep an even temperament these days😇

I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing. Here are some suggestions to help you communicate with your husband about not driving:

1. Safety First: Emphasize that your primary concern is his safety and the safety of others. Explain that his Parkinson's disease and stroke may affect his reaction time and decision-making abilities.

2. Medical Advice: Mention that his healthcare team recommends he stops driving. Sometimes hearing it from a professional can make a significant impact.

3. Alternative Solutions: Offer alternatives to driving, such as arranging for rides with family members, using public transportation, or hiring a driver.

4. Empathy and Understanding: Acknowledge his feelings and frustrations. Let him know you understand how difficult it is to give up driving, but it's a necessary step for his well-being.

5. Focus on Independence: Highlight other ways he can maintain his independence and stay active without driving.

Remember, it's important to approach the conversation with compassion and patience.
