Depression can lead to lack of appetite; so can loss of smell, which is common in PD. Having the shakes burns extra calories. If the person is eating a lot less, then 30 lbs. isn't unusual. If they are eating normally, then I would worry about something going on internally.

My husband has lost some weight, about 20 lbs., but it is in line with what he is eating. He eats very slowly so is full by the time he is 3/4 through, plus the meal is cold before he finishes so not very appetizing. Since he is moving less, he is not especially hungry.

If lack of appetite is the issue, then look for foods that are higher calorie but tasty, like nuts, dried fruit, cheeses, etc.
