I developed hoarseness some years before diagnosis & couldn’t sing along in mass. Sometimes it gets so bad I can barely talk. My Speech Therapist sent me to an Ear, Nose, & Throat Specialist. He didn't find any nodules on my vocal cords or any abnormalities. My Speech Therapist said because my whole body was constantly in the tightness of the fight or flight syndrome that it was the same tightness in my throat & vocal cords as those in my entire body causing the hoarseness. The doctor said all he saw was some redness of irritation. It is always there. Sometimes not too bad & other times it is so bad it is somewhat difficult to understand me. I was advised that when it is getting really bad to stop talking & use hand signals. It can change from hour to hour & always aches me.
I suggest your friend go to an Ear, Nose, & Throat specialist & let the doctor look down & take pictures of his throat to determine the cause of his problem. It doesn’t hurt. The cause of his could be more serious than mine. It’s best to be cautious than just let it go. That is my suggestion & a painless one at that. As the saying goes “it’s better to be safe than sorry.” Prayers that all goes well.
Blessings 🙏🏼
