My Doctor Took Me Off Oral Calcium Because It Can Cause Arteriosclerosis. I Avoid Dairy Products. What Do You Eat To Get Enough Calcium?
I have osteoporosis.
Susan, I had not heard that dairy affects Parkinson's, but we generally tend to avoid dairy around here when we can, though we both do eat yogurt. You can get calcium from beans/peas/lentils, soy products (tofu, soy milk), almonds/almond milk, tahini/sesame seeds, grains like amaranth and teff, green veggies such as turnip greens, broccoli, and kale; fruits like black currants, blackberries and figs, blackstrap molasses, and fortified plant milks. You. have to be careful not to eat all these things at once, though, because you might end up going #2 a lot. If constipation is a problem, then the above will be helpful. I got this information from Healthline "Top 10 Vegan Sources of Calcium" -- this was a good reminder for me (caregiver) I have pre-osteo and should be eating all these. A tablespoon of Blackstrap Molasses has a lot of sugar, but it has 18% of your daily calcium plus tons of other important minerals nutrients so I am reminded that when I have a craving for sweets, I should be taking a tablespoon.
Alive has a chewable vitamin. they are great! why do you avoid dairy? you can get to much calcium from supplements but the normal consumption of dairy will not hurt you.
I'm trying to eat healthy foods too. Spinach Salads, apples, bananas, Blueberries

Thank you Cindy. My issue with shell fish is that it is not kosher and I keep kosher. I find that between trying to be healthy, not eating meat, being kosher, and avoiding dairy products, my diet is very restrictive. Last night we went out to eat and we had a vegetarian spring roll and vegetarian pho. It was delicious and loaded with vitamins but probably not much calcium.
