I Have Been Reading That Too Much Levodopa Can Lead To Dyskinesia? Is Dyskenisia The Same As Tremors?
I was prescribed 25/100 carbidopa/levodopa for my PD tremors. Should I stop taking if tremors are my only symptom?
Good question Bob. My personal experience is that I had dyskinesia due to too much levodopa. Dyskinesia is not the same as tremors. For me, the tremor was an involuntary movement in my hand or foot. Dyskinesia is a twisting movement starting at my shoulders and hips.
Please be sure to talk to your doctor before making changes in your meds. While waiting to talk to your doc, write down what you are experiencing- how much and time you take the med and what movements you experience and when. This way you will have details to share with your doc when you talk and this might get you the best care for you more quickly. Be sure you listen but clearly advocate for yourself.
Please keep us posted.

Dyskenisia is not the same as Tremors. Dyskinesias are involuntary, erratic, writhing movements of the face, arms, legs or trunk. They are often fluid and dance-like, but they may also cause rapid jerking or slow and extended muscle spasms. They are not a symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD) itself. Rather, they are a complication from some Parkinson's medications.
Are you experiencing Dyskenisia? If so, I would talk to my Dr. about the dosage.
I had a similar situation. Tremors were pretty much my only symptom, other than some other mild movement issues I really didn't notice. My neurologist was firm that I should start taking C/L. I held off for 4 months because I read many people get dyskinesia after a few years. She suggested I take the meds to feel my best now and worry about other stuff down the road. She said there are several ways to dampen dyskinesia and not everyone gets it. I started C/L last week and I haven't felt this good in months. The drug has masked nearly all of my symptoms, and some I didn't know I had. I hope things stay this way!
