@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member - How can you recover? Keep walking. If you can only walk two meters, then try doing 2 meters several times a day. I think we all lose our sense of smell with PD. I have weird occasions when I can still smell something. I still bury my nose in sweet-smelling flowers because sometimes (rarely) I get a delayed aroma hours later - very pleasant. As for food, I keep my appetite up by just remembering what it is supposed to smell like & pretending to myself that I am smelling it. Falls are Not Allowed! Stop falling! Hold on to something reliable to steady yourself, get a walker, wheelchair or scooter. Balance can be relearned. It is not lost forever. Get a Physical or Occupational Therapist to help you reteach yourself balance. Sing anyway. Keep some lemon juice & honey nearby or mixed into water. Sing in the shower or bathtub. Sing in the car. Look at JeriAltstadter's story to find PD choirs & singing lessons: https://www.myparkinsonsteam.com/users/5d23bd8e... OCD and compulsive shopping are often a side effect of Requip/ropinirole talk to your Dr to reduce your dose or wean off of it. As we age, everyone becomes less than what we were in our prime. But that is still always a part of you. My husband can't climb to the top of a mountain, shoot a deer & carry it to the truck across his shoulders any more like he used to. But that is still a part of who he is. I feel more nostalgic than sad.
PD does not have to be the top thing of your life. Push it into a lower priority & do the things you most love to do. I am So Sorry if your husband has left you. Most spouses of People with PD keep their vow to have and to hold, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death does us part & to pledge each other their troth [fidelity]. I have So Much respect for those who do, although there are some who just can't take it. Phone (briefly), text, email your family members - not to complain about your PD, but to share fun things, Joys & to take an interest in them. To gain weight I Googled "diet to gain weight" - there are tons of results which looked good. At one point I had lost a lot of weight due to PD. Finally I started every day with green olives & a beer. I easily reached my goal weight, then passed it. Now I am overweight & drink too much alcohol, so I don't really recommend that method!
