Other Then It's Relationship With PD, What Do We Know About Dopamine In General?

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I realized this morning that in all the time I have been researching PD, I just accepted the relationship between PD and dopamine so I decided to take a closer look. Here is what I found at verywellhealth.com:

Dopamine is one of the better-known brain chemicals as the so-called “happy” neurotransmitter, and is involved in memory, mood, motivation, and movement.

Dopamine plays a key role in several medical conditions like Parkinson’s disease, fibromyalgia, and restless leg syndrome. Mental… read more

Yes Susan. It was Dr Wood who told me I don't have PD and is working with me on weaning off dopamine. I see him in the St E hospital in Florence. KY. In 3 hrs, he changed my life and corrected 9 yrs of treatment for the wrong disease.
It's been a roller coaster and a blessing. He told me he studies under Dr Duker and Espay but thinks too many people are incorrectly diagnosed.
He spent a lot of time with me figuring this all out and has been very responsive the my Chart as we work on weaning off dopamine.
I'll keep you posted.

Thank you so much for your kindness Marilyn. I don't think I have seen the orgasm post yet but I've gotten good at ignoring comments that add no value or positivity. We all have enough turmoil in our lives. I don't nurture negativity or disrespectful comments and believe me, there have been some. If they don't block me, I block them if they don't modify with gentle coaching. I love all of you and interacting with you. My prayer is that I help replace fear with hope cultivated through knowledge.
Thank you for providing me a forum for that.

I agree Nigel. I know the brain is a mystery but truly I don't understand why an assay to measure need and impact of the oldest PD treatment we have is still not available and I don't know if anyone is working on it.
I have to stop for awhile. My high dopamine level is making my impolite and somewhat aggressive. Smile.

There are tests being developed that could help with diagnosis using biomarkers. There is the Syn One skin test, there are tests involving spinal fluid which don't sound like fun to me, and now there is an attempt to create a blood test that can screen for alpha synuclein.
The Syn-One (Skin Biopsy) Test. The Syn-One Test® is a pathological test that uses a skin sample to confirm the presence of phosphorylation in nerves, which can carry the protein that plays an essential role in Parkinson's.

What new blood marker can identify Parkinsonian diseases?
"We have observed that an enzyme in cerebrospinal fluid and in blood is a useful marker for identifying all types of Parkinson's-related diseases with high accuracy," says Oskar Hansson, who led the study. The marker in question is called DOPA decarboxylase (DCC).

I am curious about weaning off of the PD meds because I shake worse after a half hour of taking meds. I can go six hours or more without taking my meds and I don’t shake at all until I take it. I am going to see my neurologist on the 29th of this month and hopefully my hip will be better.
