Emotional and social aspects of PD
In many ways people found that the emotional aspects of receiving a Parkinson's diagnosis may be more profound than the early clinical symptoms. Sometimes getting an explanation for symptoms can be a relief while others feel shock and disbelief, denial and doubt about the diagnosis of a chronic, progressive disease. Those who lived a healthy life style may wonder how this diagnosis is even possible.

Thank you, Maria. And thank you for your support as well as the information you’ve given us. Both have been invaluable.

Hi Maria! It could have helped immensely if any doctor would have referred me to a Parkinson’s support group, or as you suggested, a buddy to connect with. I felt so isolated for a long time. Now I belong to a,Parkinson’s gym and support group but I had to find those resources on my own. I also found my movement disorders specialist on my own, without a referral.

Relief. I had been going to an ever- increasing list of specialists who treated individual symptoms. I am the one who finally tied them together asPD.

Sue and Susan, thanks for sharing your perspectives. As alone as I felt at the time, I was grateful to be a widow- now that is something I never thought I would say. Jim's protective nature, fixer spirit and deep love would have ,ade him suffer more for me then he did during his fight with cancer. I prefer to think of him singing in God's choir while he waits for me than being consumed with worry and fear.
Is it ok to say I hate this PD for all of us and that makes me want to fight even harder.

Susan, Your words are invaluable to me Thank You!
You know, I think we have all felt so alone and/or mis-understood for so long that this community is becoming like family. And to think, a month ago, none of you had crossed my path. Wow!
