How Much Does My Mental Health Affect My Parkinson's Moves While Walking

That is a tough one. I have an significant increase of anxiety when I start to have an off period and the tremor becomes obvious to others. Therefore, I like having pockets to place my hand into to mask the tremor, but it doesn't help with balance.

I have a very difficult time walking due to orthopedic issues (knees). When you combine that with PD, it can be overwhelming. I focus on the timing of my medication and maintain a disciplined schedule for my medications, rest, meals and exercise activities.

I have been working on my self-esteem to overcome the stress of being the different person that I have become. I use this time to look at ways to make a positive impact on someone else's life. Always look for these opportunities. Sometimes, it's as easy as providing a smile and a kind greeting to others. I am learning to accept the things I cannot change, but push to change the things I can influence change.

The Parkinson’s foundation offers a wonderful exercise program for individuals living with Parkinson’s. On You Tube. You can do them in your home and at your own pace. There is a Yoga class that is relaxing and might help with depression and anxiety. Also has worthwhile information regarding PD. No pressure, no cost, just good information for body and soul.

My left foot is full of arthritis, surgery means not putt my left foot down for 8 weeks. I did get a cortisone shot which helps but for how long. I noticed that I do drag my left foots and am afraid after staying off for 2 months I’ll never be able to walk normal. Option living in pain and limping everyday. I am 76 and feel maybe I need to get this over with this winter. This has affected my ability to walk my dog, shop, and do waking excursions. I do RSBoxing 2-3 times a week, have a weight trainer 2 times a week and use to walk my dog which is now less than a half mile. What are some of your thoughts on this? Thanks
