Is There Any Truth To The Claims That CBD Oil May Be Beneficial In The Treatment Of PD?

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’ve read multiple internet claims (if it’s on the internet it must be true - yeah right) that CBD oil may calm PD tremors. There are also claims that CBD oil is effective fighting PD in other ways also.

Are there any official studies which debunk these claims or are they true?

I’ve also found that the term ‘CBD’ oil is used freely and interchangeably when referring to the two sources of the oil. The first source is derived from the stems, leaves, and flowers of the marijuana plant. This… read more

As Dale said, there is a LOT of variety in product composition and response to taking it. Many people have found the right product and dosage for them (not easy to do), but it still affects everyone differently. Every once in awhile, my husband asks for a CBD mint. These particular mints have a little THC in them, very little. It's legal here now. It helps him relax and sleep a little better. Since he only asks for it once every couple of weeks, and I just keep careful notes to see if it is making him dizzy or anything and its not. I look at it the same way for him--as a sleep aid. I DON'T have PD, but CBD products affect me greatly and not always in a great way, but that's because I don't seem to be able to take a small dose. I tend to take way too much and then I get very sluggish and muddled in my thinking for days afterward. Since I am caregiver, I really can't do that. However, I do have a CBD and Vitamin C hand cream, so when I restrain myself and just put a little on my hands before bed, it does seem to relax me. However, as soon as I feel a little relaxed, I think OH, I'll put on some more, so this is where a person like me gets into trouble. Anyway! I have high anxiety and lots of problems like that. Well, I guess that's too much information but maybe its helpful to someone who has high anxiety and impulse control issues to go slow with these things.

Several people on this site have weighed in on CBD oil and the results are mixed. I personally get no affect from the oral tincture, but do get pain relief from pain with the topical roll on.

It is by no means a game changer either way.

Here’s a study that says pretty much the same thing.
