My Doctor Wants To Put Me On The Neupro Patch, Your Comments?

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Can anyone who has taken this let me know if it worked for them, the dose they took and any side effects from it. I like to research the product before I use it. Thanks for your comments. Bean

My grandma has Parkinson’s disease, she is about 75 years old it was detected 7 years ago. Right now it’s getting more difficult to live for her, because of stiff muscles she can’t even move. L-dopa and carbidopa medicines are given, but won"t give much relief. She can"t eat food and the skin is damaging forming ganglia. I thought this might be the last stage and the medications she was given did not help at all, so I started to do alot of research on natural treatments and came across Parkinson’s Herbal Treatment from Health Herbs Clinic ( healthherbsclinic. c om ), the treatment has made a very huge difference for her. Her symptoms including body weakness and her tremors disappeared after few months on the treatment. She is getting active again since starting this treatment, she is able to walk again ( down the street and back ) and able to ride her treadmill again. God Bless all PD Caregivers. Stay Strong, take small moments throughout the day to thank yourself, to love your self, and pray to whatever faith, star, spiritual force you believe in and ask for strength.

I started with the 2mg patch and really noticed no change/ so my neurologist upped it to 4 mg patch which was quite a bit larger, harder to hide and - this is what matters- I noticed I started behaving in a far more compulsive way. Online shopping, something that never interested me, I started doing a lot. It took me waking at 2am and buying sneakers online…. And realizing I bought the same bathing suit in 3 colours … to think ‘hey, this is really weird. Really not like me’. Told Dr and he immediately stopped it. Apparently compulsive behaviour is a known side effect for some.

I hope this is helpful.

Here are some important points about the Neupro (Rotigotine Transdermal System) patch for Parkinson's disease:

- Application: Apply the patch to clean, healthy skin on the upper arm, shoulder, hip, thigh, stomach, or side. Avoid irritated, broken, inflamed, or oily skin. Do not apply lotion or powder to the area. If applying to a hairy area, shave three days prior.
- Daily Routine: Apply one patch at the same time each day. Wash hands after application.
- Heat Sensitivity: Avoid heat sources like heating pads, electric blankets, saunas, hot tubs, and direct sunlight on the patch.
- Medical Procedures: Remove the patch before MRI scans or cardioversion due to its aluminum content.
- Alcohol: Avoid alcohol as it can intensify side effects.
- Driving and Machinery: Avoid driving or operating machinery while using Neupro.
- Stopping Use: Do not stop suddenly; taper off under doctor’s guidance to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
- Side Effects: Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, and skin reactions. Seek immediate medical help for severe allergic reactions or serious side effects like hallucinations or seizures.

Always follow your doctor's instructions and discuss any concerns with them.
