Having A Problem Diagnosing Parkinson's
My private neurologist says a definitely have Parkinson's and is treating me with pramipexole which works. My VA neurologist says that I have essential tremors. How do I know what I have and what is the right treatment?
I don't believe that PD and ET are conflicting diagnosis. Several people here on my PD team have both, including myself. They can be considered comorbid rather than conflicting.

Thank you Dale. The VA is hard to deal with
If the medication they are giving you is working, you have Parkinson’s. If you still have a resting tremor, you also have essential tremor. The medications are different for both.
I have had PD for 30+ years. I just turned 59. The most important asset to living with PD, find a reputable Neurologist and is experienced in movement. Educate yourself on the definition of PD. Never self medicate. PD is not a death sentence. You can except the diagnosis and move forward or give up and invite everyone to your Pity party. I thank GOD everyday. I dont have time for this disease.
I have been taking propanolol for essential tremors for more than 10 years. They have seemed to help but they do lower my blood pressure and my heart rate.
Now that I've been diagnosed with Parkinson's I'm also taking Carbidopa/ levodopa. I have not been told of any contraindications. But I am wondering if I should drop the propanolol and see how it goes with just the Carbidopa/levodopa.
