Has Anyone Had Or Know Of Someone That Has Had Deep Brain Stimulation

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭
Sacramento, CA

I have Tremor Predominant Parkinson's and my Dr says that I may be a good candidate for deep brain stimulation. I was just reaching out to see if anyone has had this procedure or know of someone that has. Looking for Pros and cons. I have watched videos and read a lot about it but never talked to anyone that has had this procedure. Thanks for reading and hopefully someone can give me some insight of their experience.

I had DBS in 2019-20 in Gainesville FL. If tremors is the main problem, I would say definitely "go for it". This is a common problem and they know how to get good results. I have seen and heard of any number of success stories. In my case, I have truncal Dystonia and it's very hard to treat so my results weren't great, but I do feel that it has kept me more flexible and agile than I would have been without it.The 3 surgeries are a bit challenging since you are completely awake for the insertion of the electrodes, but that is necessary so that they can test your response. If an 80 year old women can do it, I am sure you can. Good luck.

I had DBS surgery in 2016 and it has helped a lot with my tremors. Check out my YouTube video where I show the effects of turning it off and then back on.

The only thing I found is that when I am tired that my speech is a bit slurred.

Recently I had the battery pack changed out for a rechargeable kind so I don’t have to have surgery for a battery change anymore for about 15 years they say.

I had successful DBS surgery in October 2022. The result has been excellent with elimination of my tremors, movements no longer stiff, gait has improved significantly and I’m sleeping well. I highly recommend DBS to regain your quality of life.
