You can test for the genes involved in PD. I think they've found 5 that are involved. It's also possible that both your parents got it because they were both exposed to the same toxins if they lived in an agricultural area or drank bad water.

The best thing you can do now is stay active and live your life as fully as possible. None of us knows what the future will hold. So enjoy the good days while you have them. Worrying about a future that may not happen can spoil the joy you could be feeling now.

The likelihood of developing Parkinson's disease (PD) can be influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. Here are some key points from the knowledge base:

- Genetic Factors: About 10 to 15 percent of PD cases are believed to have a genetic component. Genetic testing can identify mutations associated with PD, but even with a positive result, the chances of developing the disease remain low.
- Environmental Factors: Researchers have not pinpointed a direct cause of PD, but both hereditary and environmental factors play a role.

Recommendations:
- Genetic Testing: Consider undergoing genetic testing to see if you have a mutation in a gene associated with PD.
- Exercise: Regular exercise is highly recommended as it can help slow down the progression of PD symptoms.
- Communication: Maintain open communication with your neurologist and local doctor. Keep a diary of any changes in symptoms and medications.
- Research: Stay informed by researching and learning as much as possible about PD.

For more personalized advice, it's best to consult with a healthcare professional.
