Hi all, I was wondering the same thing. I can find information on suggested PD diets but nothing specific. I really need to know how many grams of protein is is suggested per day. I heard that your evening meal shouldn’t contain anymore than 4 oz of protein but would like to know the total amount for the day. I eat a lot of dairy, eggs yet yoghurt, cheese and cottage cheese so it is important for me to know so I don’t exceed the suggested amount. Thanks so much.

While I can say that following the normal heart-healthy diet is a good plan, I can also say that it is important that if you are taking levodopa, you need to make sure that your proteins are not taken at the same time as the medications as this will cause a drop in the effectiveness of the medication.

Certainly! Here are some diet suggestions for individuals with Parkinson's based on the knowledge base:

- Balanced Diet: Aim for a healthy, balanced diet to feel your best.
- Neuroprotective Nutrients: Some nutrients may help preserve function and slow decline. Fresh fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals.
- Calcium and Vitamin D: Important for bone health. Sources include milk, fat-free yogurt, dark green vegetables, and fortified soy milk.
- Healthy Weight: Maintain a healthy weight by focusing on high-calorie, high-nutrient foods if underweight. Include unsaturated fats like walnuts, pecans, flaxseed, canola and olive oil, and fatty fish.
- [[treatment:Levodopa/Carbidopa:55d534f51fcaa397470006dd]]: Time your intake of protein-rich foods to avoid interference with medication. Eat mostly carbohydrates during the day and reserve protein for dinner.
- MAOIs: Limit foods high in tyramine, such as aged cheese, aged meat, smoked fish, and fermented products.

Always consult your doctor before making significant dietary changes.
