The Best Walkers For PD
My husband is just beginning to feel unstable enough that he is asking for a walker. There are so many options, so I'm looking for advice on one that is best suited for PD patients, knowing he will use it to lean on, to stabilize him, and also of course to walk. I see that some wheeled versions have breaks, and some you have to squeeze the handles to move forward. Because his condition will deteriorate, I want to make a smart and safe initial choice.
I have read about one that can project a laser light on the floor. It is intended for people who have freezing gait. It helps them unfreeze when they have the laser light stripe to step over. If freezing gate is an issue, there is a walker out there for that.
I am going to get the U-step.
Some cities have free loan at churches.
I saw the standing walker commercial on TV and it is the one I will buy when this happens to my husband. It has a basket and a seat if a child wants to hitch a ride or perhaps he wants to use the seat to carry something to another room. Looks good but I have never seen in person. It is called the “Up Walker” 595.00 but perhaps can be found for less.
I will. Medicare will pay for part of it
