Anyone Out There Scuffling? I Only Do It During Off Time. I Have Fallen Twice Now Can Hardly Walk. Please Share Your Experience.
I started out shuffling because it was the only way to get my left leg to keep up with the right. Now, after 7-8 sessions of PT, it has been like learning all over again how to walk. I now use my cane for balance only!
Neurologist sent me to a PT for scuffling my left leg. Have now learned to walk "normally" again. Still carrying a cane for balance (sigh)
When outdoors something u can try is to use a walking pole. Instead of using it like it is intended, try holding so that the bottom end is lined up with where your right foot is about to step so that the tip of your shoe just makes contact with the pole doing a sort of kick. Then shift the bottom of the pole so that your next step with your left foot will do the same. And just keep alternating. You might find that you walk smoother and with longer strides. You must continue like this while walking but at least you get places faster.
Thank you for sharing my husband bought me a cane, it helps!
It Is possible - I have done it, although it took me 6 years. Practice, practice, practice! You have come So far! Keep up the good work, eat nourishingly, drink lots of mineral water. The PT & Occupational Therapy is amazingly effective and definitely worth the effort. My 90-year-old dad quit doing his PT exercises, fell twice, and is now confined to his home. He went back to doing his PT exercises again now. Do you have an effective knee brace? I have had a lot of relief from one and am able to tell when to quit using it when it hurts instead of supports PT also has lots of exercises that improve balance. I got to observe this with a client once - it was amazing!
